"In her first solo exhibition, Karin Cagy presents a series of works that address issues dear to her sensitivity and
involving the female universe. Mature characters, almost always presented in unexpected roles -
the great difference in the thematic investigation that he puts on the screens. His women are strong, fearless, surprising.
The result of his studio dynamics over the last 3 years, the exhibition "Beau Voir" plays with linguistic meanings, being
loosely translated as something beautiful to see, certainly a counterpoint, when we are faced with the aesthetic status quo
current, while at the same time being an expression of affirmation and conviction in the French language and flirting with the muse
existentialist Simone de Beauvoir, author of the capital book of feminism - "The Second Sex" (Le Deuxième Sexe) published
in 1949, one of the most celebrated and important works for the movement, analyzing the female condition in the spheres
sexual, psychological, social and political.
The figures chosen by the artist show themselves to be in control of their paths and statements, contradicting stereotypes and
restrictions naturalized by Western society, which, even though increasingly open to confronting ageism, still
maintains the cult of youth as its greatest economic and symbolic asset. In his paintings there are no existential limits, only
full women, which Cagy colors in cupcake hues, docile tones generally related to the feminine environment, which
she sacrifices herself in free, untamed, even shameless attitudes.
His muses flirt with political incorrectness, with junkie performances and irreverence, which his bill
expressionist with free brushstrokes, admittedly diffuse, endorses as archetypal characters, but which we can
recognize as the "next door neighbor", in a humorous version of the "girl next door" ready for an adventure, a drink, a
based or a bike race.
In this pictorial environment, where she exerts an authorial trait with figures that are sometimes sinuous or proportionate, the
artist encourages us to see grace in the (dis)form or in the plurality of forms that age brings us. We are increasingly
long-lived and increasingly we need to expand our notion of naturalization of bodies. A body naked of prejudices. A
another aesthetic. Karin Cagy, chooses a supportive look at a woman in her close environment - family, friends and people in the universe
professional as a designer and fashion creator, where she worked for 3 decades, and where these aspects are treated with rawness and
drama of a culture that is inhospitable and imposing to the body, and that, even though it is not its present place of speech, places itself
on her horizon in a latent form, in anxieties and expectations of her place in the world, which she transforms into
liberating poetry by creating free ladies who are masters of their own destinies.
Really beautiful to see!"
